Your Reaction To Different Foods
We are all individuals; what we eat affects our systems differently. Many sufferers of IBS believe that their symptoms are triggered by reactions to specific food(s) and potentially they may be allergic to one or more foods. If you suspect that a specific food is the cause of your symptoms a simple test can be acrried out to test whether your body is reacting. Like any allergic reaction, your immune system will be responding to the presences of the food, and a specific protein called IgG can be measured in your blood.
A reaction to particular foods without this immune response is probably due to a stress feedback caused by your concerns about its impact. It is therefore sensible to get a proper test so that you can concentrate on having a normal balanced diet.
If an allergy to a specific food has been confirmed you will be able to remove this from your diet and find other food stuffs that can provide the missing nutrients.
The individuality of our reaction to different foods, probably explains our beliefs in food “intolerance”. What makes one person feel bloated, could well make another person have diarrhoea and in some cases the same food that caused symptoms in one person relieves the same symptoms in others. Self diagnosis can be extremely difficult. For instance once eaten the rate at which the food passes through the system will vary by each individual therefore knowing which food triggered the particular reaction will be almost impossible. You may spot a pattern if you keep a detailed diary but in the end its best to get it professionally tested.
