Have the new GP guidelines had an impact yet?
Submitted by The_IBS_Team on Wed, 25/06/2008 - 15:20.As per our recent press release we are aware that GPs have recently been issued with new guidelines that allow them to positively diagnose IBS (rather than by a process of elmination), which we felt was a positive step. Some of the tests for other causes of IBS symptoms are very intrusive and we felt that this change would mean that IBS was given a more "legitimate" status with GPs etc. However we are aware that many sufferers are bothered that this means that GPs won't even try to find out the cause of the problem and dismiss us even more readily than they do now, with no further help, guidance or support. We would be interested to know what your experience is, what you think about this change and whether you think it is a good thing or not.

Gut Week 2008 is week commencing July 14th
Submitted by The_IBS_Team on Wed, 25/06/2008 - 13:50.We have eventually established that "Love your gut week" has been fixed for week commencing 14th July 2008. Yakult sponsor this, but we wanted to do some PR at the same time. However so far we have struggled to find out what they are actually planning apart from providing nurses on the end of ahelp line during that week. I am not sure how many of us IBS sufferers will find this particularly useful. It would be good if they were putting their resources behind raising awareness of sufferers within the healthcare profession? Perhaps somone could comment? What sort of things would others like to see happen in a specific week dedictade to raising the awareness of our condition?
