Last night's Embarrassing Illnesses Programme

I was interested to see the young lady that suffered from flatulence, and the Doctor's feedback that we should expect to pass wind at least 5 or 6 times a day. She had been "holding it in" and as a consquence was suffering severe bloating. I am curious to know how many of us (ladies or otherwise) have a fear of breaking wind in public and therefore as a result suffer more than our male friends from this condition.....any thought would be greatly recieved.

Is this really a problem these days

I care about the cramping and bloating which really affect my life. Flatulence is an issue but I would not let this stop me trying to lead as normal a life as I can.

Breaking wind in public

Hi there

Absolutely no point of having the fear, it needs to come out. If my husband isnt with me (he knows by my face giving him a certain look) that he needs to give a loud cough while I 'breeze' - then thats what I do, cough loudly myself, and breeze. But, I have been much better with ProBion - taken every day for nearly three months. Unless of course its just a fluke, but I am not risking it.

In the house when visitors call, get yourself a dog. Blame him if its a breeze with a whiff!

Works here.

Regards, Pickles.

This seems great advice

This seems great advice .....although getting a dog could be extreme for us as I am not sure our two cats would take it so well. I love the way your husband is clearly in tune and helps cover for you. I will talk to mine about doing the same thing!

I didn't see it but don't generally have an issue

In my experience men tend to feel more comfortable with passing wind in public than women
